I waited a while to create this page, it is sort of bitter sweet.
The old building was destroyed and a new seven story NASA Headquarters building constructed.
Ironically (if that is the correct word) When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, NASA sent there employees to work from home and the new building remained empty except for a few security people.

NASA Headquarters being destroyed
Here is a photo that generations of Kennedy Space Center employees will recognize--the back entrance to the Headquarters building and for years, a place with tables to eat lunch.
A tiny problem? I have Hundreds of pictures to choose from to add to this page. That creates quite a challenge-LOL
Here is another photo that generations of Kennedy Space Center employees will recognize--the back entrance to the Headquarters building and for years, a place with tables to eat lunch.
A brief explanation of the photos.
As a "Communication" person, I have spent a career working on Kennedy Space Center, and as the Comm guy our teams work and travel the space center from the top (North to Oak Hill, to the Southern end, KARS Park and all points in-between.
So it was my official task to inspect the abandoned NASA Headquarters and lead a team, as nearly the last KSC employees to inspect the building before the final hand hover to the demolition cranes.
I called this part, "A release of the NASA Ghosts"
Another tiny, tiny interesting fact, is everyone kept saying this building was haunted. What?
Third floor hallway
As part of my official duty, I had to inspect all 18 communication rooms prior to NASA handing the ownership of the building to the demolition contractor.
Yes is was spooky. By this time there was no electricity in the building. We climbed the Stygian dark stairs by flashlight.
The main entrance and lobby just before demo
Speaking of NASA Ghosts.
Just before Demo, the HQ lobby was full of pallets of dead Blackberries! There were thousands of Blackberries, all begging for just one more charge so they could send a message to fellow blackberries once known. It was sad and crazy. I did not inquire what happened to them.
My YouTube talk on the Blackberries
Poster on wall
Of course what was striking, was all the posters and propaganda left in the building when the residents moved to the new NASA Headquarters building.
Shuttle poster on the floor.
By the time of the building demo, NASA was trying to forget the Space Shuttle program. The 15,000 space shuttle employees were already laid off.
Some of the abandoned propaganda in the old Headquarters building. (an early version of the SLS and the space station
This will never be seen again:
From the top of the new NASA Headquarters roof, looking west to the old NASA Headquarters building before demo.
The Visitors Center can be seen in the distance.

The O&C building is in the background

Lots of trigger warnings, so just stay away if you are thinned skinned
I will add a second page of pictures, This was only a sample
This is where I got lucky.
I met Steve at the Space Center AFTER the NASA building was destroyed and he talked about.........Well about what was in the building after all the people moved of the building. Steve was on those people who like myself, who had to work the Headquarters building prior to the final demo.
By the way, check out Steve on Monday Nights at Ashley's Restaurant for a talk about his gear and experiences!
